COSRT-REGISTERED · NCPS-ACCREDITED · SERVING KENT
Private, confidential individual counselling and psychotherapy for people across Kent. A dedicated space to work through anxiety, stress, life transitions, and what’s really on your mind.
WHAT IS INDIVIDUAL THERAPY? GUIDE FOR KENT CLIENTS
Individual therapy, also called, individual counselling, one-to-one therapy, or private therapy is a confidential, talking-based form of psychotherapy where you work one-to-one with a qualified therapist. Unlike couple or family therapy, the focus stays entirely on you: your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and what you want to change or understand better.
In the UK, “counsellor,” “psychotherapist,” and “psychologist” are sometimes used interchangeably, but there are real differences. Psychologists hold a psychology degree and are often members of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Counsellors and psychotherapists aren’t required to hold a psychology degree, but to practise professionally they must belong to a recognised body and complete accredited training plus supervised clinical hours.
For people across Kent private therapy isn’t only for moments of crisis. Many clients come after a difficult life event, during a period of stress or transition, or simply because they want dedicated space to understand themselves better; no diagnosis or referral required.
OUR APPROACH
Every person’s reasons for seeking therapy are different, and so is the right way to work through them. Our approach is integrative, drawing on:
A non-directive approach built on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and trust in your own capacity for growth.
Exploring how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape present thoughts and behaviour.
Identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety or distress.
Understanding how early relationships shape how you relate to yourself and others now.
Examining recurring patterns in how you interact with others.
Working with present-moment awareness and unresolved feelings.
Addressing intimacy or sexual concerns directly, where relevant, rather than as separate.
Sessions are led by what you actually need in Kent: some clients want a structured, goal-oriented approach; others want an open space to think and process at their own pace, the approach adapts to you, not a fixed programme.

ISSUES KENT CLIENTS BRING TO THERAPY
Persistent worry, racing thoughts, or a constant sense of unease can affect every part of daily life.
Low mood, loss of motivation, or a sense of disconnection from things you used to enjoy.
Persistent self-criticism or difficulty recognising your own value can quietly shape decisions across your whole life.
Whether from work, family, or simply too much at once, ongoing stress benefits from dedicated space to process rather than just push through.
Loss doesn't follow a fixed timeline. Therapy offers space to process grief without pressure to "move on" by a certain point.
Divorce, redundancy, relocation, retirement, or any major change can bring up feelings that are hard to place. Individual therapy in Kent helps make sense of what's shifting.
Present-day patterns often trace back to earlier experiences. Structured, paced support can help process these safely.
Navigating identity across different cultural, religious, or family contexts particularly relevant for Kent's diverse communities.
Burnout, career uncertainty, or workplace pressure affecting your wider wellbeing.
